“Discussions, dialogues and debates on the role of faith schools and their effect on community cohesion often create more heat than light. Runnymede first intervened in this area 27 years ago;1 and the debate still rages on today. For this report we have consulted with over a thousand people – parents, pupils, professionals and policymakers from a range of faith backgrounds as well as those who do not subscribe to any religion. We approached the issues open mindedly; seeking only to discover what part faith schools play in preparing young people for life in a multi-ethnic, multi faith society. Our findings and recommendations set out a direction for policy and practice that offers an opportunity for faith schools to play their full role in building a successful multiethnic, multi-faith nation.” (page 3)
