St. Thomas More College, Saskatoon, SK, Canada, is pleased to host a conference on social justice and the common good March 8-9, 2013, to mark the 50th anniversary of Vatican II.
The conference is expected to draw an interdisciplinary audience of scholars in areas such as sociology, history, philosophy, religious studies, economics, and political studies whose research has focused on documenting and comprehending changes in the field of social justice that stemmed from this momentous historical event.
The conference will begin with an opening session on the Friday evening at which two scholars will articulate the links between Vatican II and the concepts of social justice and the common good. All-day themed paper sessions on Saturday include:
- A preferential option for the poor
- A culture of peace
- Religious pluralism
- Living social justice and the common good.
The conference will end with dinner and a co-keynote address delivered by Dr. Gregory Baum, Professor Emeritus and Dr. Stephen Scharper, Associate Professor, Department of Anthropology, U of T Mississauga and Centre for Environment.
