A conference on Jewish Music and Jewish Identity will be held October 19-21, 2014 at Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio. It seeks to engage scholars of Jewish studies, ethnomusicology, musicology, and the humanities in a discussion about the intersection of Jewish identity and music. In addition to academic presentations, the two-day meeting will include public concerts and lectures.
Music is an important component of Jewish culture. It mirrors and shapes the diverse modes of Jewish identity found throughout the world and across history. Music is ever present yet often remains an intangible sibling of the literary and visual arts. The aim of this conference is to bridge the gaps between Jewish studies, music research, and the humanities.
