Slamming the Uttar Pradesh government for demanding funds for implementing Right to Education Act in the state, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on Sunday said the Congress would ensure education to all after it comes to power in the state in 2012 Assembly polls. "There should be no politics with education and future of the children. The UP government had already got some answer in 2009 Lok Sabha election and rest it will get in 2012 Assembly polls," Sibal told reporters in reply to a question about the Mayawati government's demand regarding RTE.
The minister said if the state was not ready to contribute funds for RTE, it should go and tell the people that it could not provide education to their children.
"On one side states claims that education is their subject and there should be no interference from the Centre, but on the other they fail to promote education and improve its quality. But we (Congress) will fulfil our commitment and duty," he said.
While majority of the funding is being done by the Centre, the state is required to contribute its share, but demanding 90 per cent support from the Centre is not justified, he said.
When asked whether RTE was a part of his party's mission 2012, he said that exactly it was and Congress' 21 years exile in the state would come to an end after the assembly polls.
Sibal said the Centre was planning to increase its participation in 'education to all' project and a decision in this regard would be taken soon.
On minorities opposing constitution of Central Madarsa Board, the minister said there was no such plan.
"I have said again and again that we will not interfere in religious education. As far as RTE is concerned it does not touch madarsas," he said.
He said a national council was being constituted to monitor the quality of education and core curriculum of different subjects was being prepared.
