The Northeast Popular/ American Culture Association will be holding its annual conference at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island on October 24-25, 2014.
This call for papers welcomes proposals for any themes and topics related to the area of RELIGION/ RELIGIOUS STUDIES in popular and American culture. Proposals are due no later than June 9, 2014.
All topics and themes related to religion/ religious studies in popular and American culture are welcome but some specific themes germane to the 2014 session include:
~ Religion and civil/ human rights (50oth anniversary of War on Poverty/ Civil Rights)
~ 50th anniversary of Vatican II: interfaith dialogues
~ “It was 50 years ago today:” Religion and the “British Invasion” (Beatles)
~ Religion in popular media (TV, films) and social media
~ Religious media
~ Ideal of fundamentalism: the New Atheism/ religious fundamentalism
Proposals should be 250-400 words and be accompanied by a 1-page cv for each presenter. Paper or panel proposals should be sent both to the Program Chair (Robert Hackey; rhackeyATprovidence.edu) AND the Area Chair (June-Ann Greeley; greeleyjATsacredheart.edu).
