The 8th World Conference on Muslim Education 2012 (World-Come2012) will be held 12 to 14 November 2012, in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
The series of World Conferences on Muslim Education (World-COME) aim to bring together all the relevant and interested parties (individuals and organizations) in issues related to Muslim education. The first in the series identified the main problems in Muslim education and suggested remedies, and was followed by a succession of five other world conferences held in different parts of the world. The 7th World-COME was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur in 2009. It was attended by prominent leaders in the field of Muslim education worldwide, including the honorable Sheikh Prof. Dr. Wahbah Zuhali. The world-COME to be held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darul Salam aims to be as dynamic and as influential as its predecessors. It will take into account the impact of globalization on Muslim education, looking in particular at issues such as Mosque as University, oneness versus dualism of knowledge, Ta’dib is education in Islam, Talaqqi as Islamic Pedagogy, Islamophobia, secularism, the marginalization of spiritual values as well as human capital development and the advancement of ICT and its relevance to Muslim education. It will continue to develop themes discussed in earlier conferences, such as the Islamization of knowledge, curriculum designing and the teacher training, but will contextualize them in the current globalized atmosphere. This conference is expected to usher in a new era of Muslim education which will counteract the negatives effects of globalization and at the same times incorporate its more favourable aspects.
